HOMMEL TO THE LYNX AFTER DROPPING COLLEGE ELIGIBILITY

LPGA golfer Michelle McGann did not visit the booth of
her equipment sponsor, Lynx, at the PGA International Golf
Show in Las Vegas, another sign of her "acrimonious
relationship" with the company, according to GOLFWEEK's
Henning, Achenbach & Seanor. But "if she had, she would
have seen a large poster of 20-year-old Kristen Hommel," the
girlfriend and caddie of Steve Scott, who lost to Tiger
Woods in the '96 U.S. Amateur. Hommel, a junior at the
Univ. of FL, "has vacated her collegiate golf eligibility
and amateur status to replace McGann as the female
figurehead for Lynx." Hommel will be a consultant to the
junior and women's markets (GOLFWEEK, 9/20 issue).
CALLAWAY AT PEBBLE BEACH: Callaway Golf Co. has
acquired sponsorship of the Pebble Beach Invitational,
November 20-23. Callaway will be joined by presenting
sponsor Merrill Lynch to create the Callaway Golf Pebble
Beach Invitational presented by Merrill Lynch (Callaway).
