Twins Owner Carl Pohlad said Tuesday he expects to
announce "soon" that the team has a formal purchase offer
from a group of investors led by NC business exec Don Beaver
to move the Twins to NC, according to Patrick Sweeney of the
St. Paul PIONEER PRESS. Pohlad said the purchase offer is
"not complete, but he expects to show proof of an offer" to
MN lawmakers at next month's planned special legislative
session on the stadium. Pohlad: "We didn't specifically say
what date. We're still in the process of conversation,
serious talks, with respect to this." After a meeting
Monday between Pohlad and other MN officials, Bernie Omann,
MN Gov. Arne Carlson's Chief of Staff, said that Pohlad, "in
effect, gave lawmakers a right-of-first-refusal on the team"
(St. Paul PIONEER PRESS, 9/24). MN State Sen. Keith
Langseth, co-Chair of a legislative task force looking into
a new ballpark, said yesterday that he "expects" Pohlad to
announce around October 1 that "he has a tentative deal to
sell the Twins." Langseth: "That will sharpen the focus of
the stadium debate" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 9/24).
