CISL'S WEINSTEIN CALLS LEAGUE CREDIBLE AND EYES EXPANSION

CISL Commissioner Ron Weinstein was interviewed by
Joseph Duarte of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE, and discussed the
state of the league, its 11 clubs and possible expansion.
Weinstein, on CISL's growth from its '93 inaugural season:
"The league has become very credible. ... We definitely look
upon ourselves as a major-league sport. If you look at the
roots of the NBA, NHL, Major League Baseball and NFL, we are
so far ahead of the game from where they were when they
finished their fourth year." On expansion: "We're very
focused into the Northeast. We've been in constant
communication with Boston and Nashville." Asked about MLS
competition, Weinstein said the Dallas and Washington
franchises "have been very successful in head-to-head
action. We welcome the rivalry" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/10).
