IRSAY TARGETS $20M IN STADIUM REVENUE TO REMAIN VIABLE

Colts Owner Jim Irsay said Tuesday that "he wants to
make" $20M a year in stadium revenues, what he calls the NFL
average, according to Kathleen Johnston of the INDIANAPOLIS
STAR-NEWS. Colts spokesperson Myra Borshoff said that the
team "commissioned a study of the five most recent NFL
stadium deals and determined that on average, those teams
will make about" $21M a year. The Colts currently earn
about $2.5M in gross stadium revenues, excluding ticket
sales. Irsay: "If I'm an average-grossing team, I'll stay
here for 100 years." Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith
"has offered to give the team up to" $8M of the city's
Colts-generated revenue, but he said that it would be
"virtually impossible" for the city and private sector to
offer $20M. Goldsmith: "That outside number of $20
(million) from whatever source is very, very, very difficult
to reach." Irsay said he would accept less than $20M a year
in revenue, but the STAR-NEWS' Johnston said he wasn't
specific. He did say that team may look into adding 2,400
club seats to the RCA Dome for revenue (STAR-NEWS, 8/27).
