JUDGE RULES IN FAVOR OF ALLEN ON WA STADIUM BALLOT WORDING

In a ruling that "pleased stadium backers and enraged
opponents," a WA judge yesterday approved two changes
pursued by Paul Allen's Football Northwest to the ballot for
the June 17 stadium referendum, according to Rachel
Zimmerman of the SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER. The stadium
will now be described as a football and soccer facility, and
the word "professional" would be removed "in order to let
voters know that amateur sports also could be played." The
new ballot reads: "Shall a public stadium authority be
authorized to build and operate a football/soccer stadium
and exhibition center financed by tax revenues and private
contributions?" Stadium opponents had "argued that the
ballot title should clearly state" that the proposal
includes $300M in taxpayer-funded bonds and that the
Kingdome would be razed "to make way for the new stadium"
     (SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER, 5/13).
