USOC EXPECTS TELECOM, BANKING & AUTO SPONSORS BY YEAR'S END

Sponsorship deals for the 2002 Winter Games in the
telecom, banking and automotive categories are "expected to
be signed up by year's end," according to Mike Gorrell of
the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. USOC Marketing Dir John Krimsky:
"We've made 30 presentations to American corporations
interested in sponsorship and not a single one said no. A
few said 'That's awfully expensive,' but there were no
no's." Krimsky said that OPUS, the joint marketing venture
between the USOC and the SLOC, has received commitments of
cash and equipment worth roughly $100M; its eight-year goal
is $719M. Krimsky added OPUS "intends to hire 18 employees
soon," and "could have" 30 staff members and 10 interns by
     2002 (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 4/14).
FUTURE PLANS: SLOC trustees set up a retirement plan
for SLOC President Tom Welch and Senior VPs Dave Johnson and
Gordon Crabtree where they can begin collecting pensions
valued at over $3M when they "retire from the business of
putting on" the 2002 Games (Lisa Roche, DESERET NEWS, 4/15).
