SUDS STANDOFF IN PITTSBURGH; STEELERS SUE PITTSBURGH BREWING

The Steelers filed suit against Pittsburgh Brewing Co.
yesterday in federal court, according to Marylynne Pitz of
the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE. The team and NFL Properties
want a federal judge to order the company to stop making
beer cans using black and gold, the team's trademarked
colors, or any other licensed logos. The Steelers and NFLP
Inc. claim this is the second time that Pittsburgh Brewing
"has infringed" on or upon the team's trademarks. The first
incident occurred in January '96 when, "in an attempt to
capitalize on the Steelers' postseason success," the company
sold Iron City beer in cans labeled "Blitzburgh Beer."
ALLEGATIONS: The Steelers and NFLP want Pittsburgh
Brewing to account for the profit the company made on the
specialty beer cans and are seeking three times that amount
in damages. Also, they are seeking unspecified damages for
"damaging the team's business relationship" with Miller and
A-B and would like all of the specialty beer cans removed
from store shelves (POST-GAZETTE/DETROIT NEWS, 4/10).
