MARTINA HINGIS DRIVES OFF WITH OPEL SPONSORSHIP DEAL

GM subsidiary Opel has signed Australian Open champion
Martina Hingis to a three-year sponsorship deal, according
to a report by REUTER. The 16-year-old Swiss is currently
ranked No. 2 in the world. Financial terms were not
revealed. In '95, Opel decided not to renew a ten-year
contract with Steffi Graf, worth more than $1M a year,
because of "concern about the way her money was being
managed." Last month, Hingis signed a $10M deal with
Italian sportswear company Sergio Tacchini (REUTER, 2/20).
