ANGELS IN THE ... SANDLOT? BIG "A" STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION

The renovation of Anaheim Stadium is profiled by Chris
Foster of the L.A. TIMES. Foster: "The field looks ready
... for a sandlot game." The first game in Anaheim is
scheduled for March 29 and Kevin Uhlich, Dir of Stadium
Operations said, "Right now, we're on a schedule to be ready
... It has to be ready. This is not going to be an Oakland
Coliseum situation." The press box, suites and concession
stands behind home plate still need to be renovated, dugouts
and clubhouses need to be refurbished, and sod for the
infield and outfield is expected to arrive next week.
Capacity will be reduced from 64,593 to 26,000-30,000 for
this season, increasing to 45,000 in '98 (L.A. TIMES, 2/21).
