NAMES IN THE NEWS

          "Access Hollywood" reported that KEVIN COSTNER will
     star in his third baseball movie, "For The Love of the
     Game."  Costner will play a washed up pitcher ("Access
     Hollywood," 12/12)....AL umpire JOHN HIRSCHBECK will
     autograph photos of himself being spat on by Orioles 2B
     Roberto Alomar at a memorabilia show in Connecticut next
     February. The proceeds will be donated to the Kennedy
     Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins, which is researching the
     kind of brain disease that killed one of Hirschbeck's
     children ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 12/12)....NANCY KERRIGAN was
     named as '96-97 spokesperson for the Massachusetts
     Children's Trust Fund (Children's Trust Fund)....Long-
     distance telephone company LCI International Inc. has named
     JULIUS ERVING to its board of directors (USA TODAY,
     12/13).... TONI BRAXTON is engaged to the Magic's DAVID
     VAUGHN (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 12/13)....Knicks President ERNIE
     GRUNFELD will play himself in the upcoming AL PACINO and
     KEANU REAVES movie, "Devil's Advocate" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS,
     12/13)....Pistons Managing Partner BILL DAVIDSON will donate
     $30M to the American Technion Society to establish a world-
     class business school at the Technion-Israel Institute of
     Technology in Haifa, Israel (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 12/12).
