BOSTON MAYOR URGES KRAFT TO DROP SOUTH BOSTON STADIUM PLANS

          Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has told Patriots Owner
     Robert Kraft to take his plans for a new stadium out of
     South Boston and to another neighborhood, according to David
     Halbfinger of the BOSTON GLOBE.  Menino: "I told him, 'This
     is not going to work.  Why don't we look at other
     locations?'"  Menino said that Kraft "ought to go where he's
     welcome -- or at least where opponents won't flatten him
     quite as soundly as in South Boston."  The Mayor "faulted"
     Kraft for not taking his plans with the MA Port Authority to
     South Boston leaders "long before the deal surfaced" in the
     newspapers, "questioned" Kraft's traffic estimates and his
     claim that he could only fund the stadium privately if it's
     located in South Boston (BOSTON GLOBE, 12/13).
