MEDIA NOTES

Virtual advertising was examined by ABC's Armen Keteyian,
who notes virtual ads "will almost certainly revolutionize" the
$17B a year global sports TV market. Princeton Video Image Inc.
spokesperson Sam McCleery: "You allow multiple advertisers to
access the same space at the same time, thereby increasing the
value of that space for the two rightsholders many, many times"
("World News Tonight," ABC, 10/21)....ESPN2 will simulcast
ESPNEWS between periods and during halftime for its hockey and
college basketball coverage (ESPNEWS)....Former Turner
Entertainment Group President Scott Sassa "is expected" to take
the top position at Marvel Entertainment (L.A. TIMES,
10/22)....In New York, Bob Raissman notes reports ESPN Radio may
not renew Sports Babe Nanci Donnellan's contract because of
"gratuitous profanity, along with a variety of rip jobs on
different sports personalities" in her book "The Babe in
Boyland." Raissman: "If ESPN brass is so concerned with its
talent being involved in 'gratuitous profanity,' why did they
allow Charley Steiner and Peter Gammons to appear on HBO's
'ARLI$$,' where four-letter words flow fast and furious?" (N.Y.
DAILY NEWS, 10/22).
