GROUND BROKEN AT RAVENS NEST

Calling it a "a monument to [Baltimore's] second
renaissance," MD Gov. Parris Glendenning helped break ground for
the Ravens' new $200M, 68,400-seat stadium adjacent to Camden
Yards yesterday. The Baltimore SUN notes the Ravens have already
sold 54,000 season tickets for '96 games at Memorial Stadium.
Also attending was former Gov. William Donald Schaefer, who
helped persuade the General Assembly to support the state-
financed stadium. Schaefer, who said he did not expect the
facility to be named after him: "I'm going to have as much
chance of that as I do of becoming an astronaut" (Michael James,
Baltimore SUN, 7/24).
