THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP: WATCH GOLF AND BUY SOME CLOTHES

Last year, sales of PGA Tour-TPC merchandise "hovered"
around $500,000 during The Players Championship, and this year,
sales are "expected to double," largely due to the new 3,500-
square-foot merchandise venue near the 17th green, according to
the FLORIDA TIMES-UNION. Earl Daniels notes for the first time,
TPC officials are focused on presenting merchandise in a "more
appealing" way. The retail areas are a contrast to the wooden
booths from years past where consumers couldn't walk around or
touch merchandise. Products are available from such designers as
Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, Ralph Lauren Golf, Ashworth, Izod and
Slazenger -- and most items carrying the TPC logo can only be
found at the event (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 3/28).
GOLF NOTES: Nike counts Nick Price, Peter Jacobsen and
Michael Campbell as the newest members of its golf team ( Don
Harrison, VANCOUVER PROVINCE, 3/28)....Billy Casper Golf
Management has been selected by the Baltimore County Revenue
Authority to provide management consultation services to all five
BCRA golf facilities (Billy Casper)....The Callaway Golf Company
Foundation has made a grant of $250,000 to the LPGA Urban Youth
Golf Program (LPGA).
