     Former No. 1-ranked tennis player STEFAN EDBERG has
announced that this will be his last year on the pro tennis
circuit (N.Y. TIMES, 12/19)....A German court denied a request to
release PETER GRAF from prison.  Graf, father of STEFFI GRAF, is
being held in investigative custody on suspicion of tax evasion
(USA TODAY, 12/19)....Former Bengal All Pro MIKE REID has written
an opera about a wide receiver.  "Different Fields" opens
February 7 at New York's Victory Theater (USA TODAY,
12/19)....DON KING, who gave more than 1,000 free tickets to
underprivileged Philadelphia children for Saturday's Tyson-Mathis
fight, announced he will fly 20 area kids to Las Vegas for Tyson-
Bruno March 16 (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 12/19)....DEAN CAIN, who
plays Superman on ABC's "Lois and Clark," was on the sidelines
during Sunday's Bills-Dolphins game.  He also took part in the
pregame coin toss.  Cain was an all-Ivy defensive back at
