MASSACHUSETTS GOVERNOR REVIVES PATRIOTS STADIUM IDEA

MA Gov. William Weld yesterday "revived" the idea for a
football stadium in South Boston, according to the BOSTON GLOBE.
This new plan, yet to be formally unveiled, calls for an open-air
stadium to be built on a state-owned waterfront site for under
$200M. Weld said Patriots Owner Robert Kraft would pay for the
new facility, as he already offered to invest $215M in the
stadium portion of the now-defunct megaplex. David Halbfinger
reports, while Kraft could not be reached for comment, MassPort
Exec Dir Stephen Tocco said he has spoken to Kraft three times in
the last two weeks. Tocco: "It is premature to say this is
doable. The concept can work, but we are quite a distance away
from a deal" (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/17). The BOSTON HERALD reports
Tocco said a MassPort analysis will be completed in the next 30-
60 days, at which time more detailed recommendations can be made
(Connolly & Primack, BOSTON HERALD, 11/17).
BU EYES FENWAY: Officials from Boston Univ. have expressed
"real interest" in acquiring Fenway Park for use as recreational
facilities should the Red Sox move. Developer R.M. Bradley & Co.
has presented a formal plan to BU and the Red Sox for such a
deal, but the team is "noncommittal" at this point. The Red Sox
have already pledged $150M toward the construction of a new
ballpark and are alo looking at South Boston (BOSTON HERALD,
11/17).
