DISPUTE WITH YASHIN GIVES RUSSIANS OPPORTUNITY TO ATTACK NHL

Alexei Yashin's desire to play for the Russian Central Red
Army team while holding out from the Senators "has escalated into
a showcase opportunity" for the Russians to show how underpaid
they are for players taken by the NHL. In today's OTTAWA
CITIZEN, Mike Tricky reports Central Red Army team GM Valeri
Gushin will present his case to the IIHF today in Zurich when
that body rules on Yashin's eligibility in Russia. Gushin claims
the NHL's transfer fee payment of $125,000/player is
"ridiculously low," and that the North Americans have failed to
compensate the Russians for at least two dozen players (OTTAWA
CITIZEN, 10/19).
