The PGA International Golf Show, a forum for manufacturers
to unveil their new technology, concludes today in Las Vegas, NV.
Over 18,000 were expected to attend the event and among the lines
that have received the most recognition and highlights: Wilson's
introduction of their Invex driver, showcased around John Daly;
Cobra's line of new Greg Norman irons; Spalding's tagline around
their new line of Top-Flite balls -- "The most played name in
golf" --and their $1M challenge to any company that can argue
with their claim of ball dominance. GOLFWORLD interviewed PGA of
America's Senior Dir of Golf Expositions John Zurek, who handles
both the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando and the PGA Int'l Golf
Show in Las Vegas (GOLF WORLD, 9/8 issue).
GOLF NEWS & NOTES: Although a Callaway credit card, which
is being tested in selected markets, has achieved the "goal of
reaching new sales," pro shops have complained that the card,
good only for Callaway products, "has complicated processing"
when customers buy a variety of brands. The card has a 6%
annual percentage rate (GSO PRO REPORT, 9/8).
