HOCKEY AGENTS CRY "COLLUSION"

Some player agents for NHL stars are considering filing
collusion charges against the league because of the "long and
impressive list of free agents who have received few contract
offers," writes David Shoalts in this morning's GLOBE & MAIL.
Shoalts reports that the lack of offers to players such as the
Devils' Martin Brodeur and Canucks' Trevor Linden has made
"enough agents angry" to warrant discussion at an NHLPA seminar
for agents during July. Shoalts reports that another seminar
scheduled during training camp will feature the issue as a "major
topic." Agent Don Meehan said NHL GMs say that "fiscal
responsibility" is to blame for the lack of offers. Meehan: "To
me, that is not an acceptable response." Canucks GM Pat Quinn
said that salary demands of players make it difficult for many
teams to afford them (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 9/13).
