MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

     The Sports Authority reported record 2nd-quarter earnings,
as net income hit $6.9M, up from $4.8M from the same period a
year ago. TSA Chair Jack Smith attributed the increase to "a
favorable shift in our merchandise mix, as well as cost controls"
(MIAMI HERALD, 8/11)....The Mobile (AA) BaySharks of the Texas-
Louisiana League held Jerry Garcia night on Thursday in
remembrance of the leader of the Grateful Dead.  Fans wearing any
tie-dyed or Dead T-shirt got in for $1, and the BaySharks offered
free parking to any fans in a VW bus (Rod Beaton, USA TODAY,
8/11). ...Sportmart has changed their $8M-10 ad account to
Cramer-Krasselt, Chicago from Chase, Ehrenberg & Rosene.
....SportsChannel New England will review four agencies for an
image campaign (AD AGE DAILY, 8/11)....The Colorado Avalanche
announced their on-ice sweaters will be manufactured by Starter,
marking the first time Starter will make an on-ice sweater
(Avalanche)....The BOSTON GLOBE ran an extensive series on the
sports memorabilia industry, called "Sign of the Times."  The
four part series focused on the "big business" of memorabilia,
including forgery and solutions to "clean up the industry"
(BOSTON GLOBE, 8/6-10)....49ers Owner Edward DeBartolo Jr.
confirmed he has signed a deal to develop a 400,000-square foot
entertainment center and casino project in South San Francisco.
The site includes a plan by Hollywood Park to build a 150-card
casino (Mark Simon, SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, 8/11).
