NAMES IN THE NEWS

     Wimbledon Champion STEFFI GRAF along with her father and
personal financial manager PETER GRAF are being investigated by
German tax authorities.  On May 23, tax investigators collected
documents from the Graf family home in Bruhl and these documents
are being audited (Mult., 7/13).  CBS' Dan Rather reported that
Graf "is suspected of tax evasion along with her father" ("CBS
Evening News," 7/12)....GREG NORMAN was reportedly paid $350,000
plus $50,000 in jet fuel to play in the Murphy's Irish Open in
Kilkenny last week.  Such fees are supposedly forbidden on the
European Tour, but sponsors "are given a number of ways to get
around the rules."  Norman:  "You have to pay for professional
talent."  COLIN MONTGOMERIE called it "Outrageous!" ("Inside
Golf," SI, 7/17 issue)....Among the speakers at the "Breaking
Through as a Sports Agent" seminar (July 22-23 at Harrah's Las
Vegas) will be agent DENNIS GILBERT, attorney ROBERT SHAPIRO, and
JERRY TARKANIAN  (Allan Malamud, L.A. TIMES, 7/13).
