     WAYNE HUIZENGA will invest $27M in Republic Waste
Industries, a small waste company with recent annual revenue of
around $100M, and is expected to take over as Chair & CEO (WALL
STREET JOURNAL, 5/23).  Analyst Sanders Morris Mundy:  "He just
might want something easier for a while.  Somebody who might not
go on strike" (Ft. Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL, 5/23)....GEORGE
FOREMAN said headgear should be mandatory in the aftermath of the
boxing death of JIMMY GARCIA.  Foreman: "I'd do it right now.
When is the right time?  Now" (Mult., 5/23)....JOHN FEINSTEIN's
new book "A Good Walk Spoiled: Days and Nights on the PGA Tour,"
will be released June 6 (Little Brown)....The Pistons' JOE DUMARS
was recognized as one of NEWSWEEK's National Achievement Award
Winners for his charity work (NEWSWEEK, 5/29 issue)....PETE ROSE
was on ESPN's "Up Close" and commented on MICHAEL JORDAN and
gambling: "If Michael had been a baseball player and had the same
problems he did while playing basketball, then he would have been
suspended for life just like me" (ESPN, 5/23).... IVAN LENDL
failed in his bid to become only the third man to participate in
both the in both the U.S. Open golf and tennis championships when
he shot an 8-over-par 78 in a U.S. Open qualifier last week (PGA
Tour)....CONNIE CHUNG is reportedly being pursued by the Fox
Network, according to the BOSTON HERALD.  Industry insiders say
Fox may sign Chung to anchor their upcoming nightly news show
(BOSTON HERALD, 5/23).  Letterman's Top 10 was "Real Reasons
Connie Chung is Leaving CBS."  Highlights:  5) Same reason that
those who could left the Titanic; 4) CBS was forcing her to
change her name to "Dr. Chung, Anchorwoman" ("Late Show," CBS,
5/22)
