NAMES IN THE NEWS

     JIMMY CONNORS and GUILLERMO VILAS hit the court today on
Prime as part of "The Challenge" from Pebble Beach, co-produced
by JACK NICKLAUS Productions and Connor's Net Assets.  JOHN
MCENROE and BJORN BORG play tomorrow in a match televised on ABC.
The winners play Sunday on ABC (L. A. TIMES, 5/19)....Actor
VINCENT VAN PATTEN and ILIE NASTASE play an exhibition match this
weekend to promote Van Patten's new picture "The Break," which is
being billed as the "Rocky" of tennis and tells the tale of "a
burnt-out tennis pro who's hired to coach a rookie player with
the idea that he'll disillusion the kid about the game."  Co-
stars include RAE DAWN CHONG, MARTIN SHEEN, and VALERIE PERRINE
(VARIETY, 5/19)....Former Bucks player-sports agent LEN ELMORE is
profiled in the Bucks' FULL COURT PRESS.  Elmore says he is
finding a way to "utilize my experiences" through his Maryland-
based Precepts Entertainment which represents 10 athletes: five
NBA players, three NFL players, a minor league baseball player,
and a gymnast (FULL COURT PRESS, 5/95)....NOLAN BUSHNELL,
inventor of "Pong" and founder of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, is
launching a chain of "high-tech family amusement centers called
E2000," which will feature video-based rides, interactive games,
and trivia games.  Bushnell on the concpet:  "Think of Chuck E.
Cheese on steriods" (Michelle Rafter/REUTER, 5/19)....Rapper TONE
LOC was hospitalized after he collapsed at courtside last night
at halftime of the Lakers-Spurs game.  Loc regained his feet and
was taken to Centinela Hospital in L.A.  Cause of the collapse is
unknown (WASHINGTON POST, 5/19)....Giants RB HERSCHEL WALKER will
appear in a martial arts movie that is filming this summer.
Walker is a sixth-degree black belt in taekwondo (ATLANTA
CONSTITUTION, 5/19)....GMC Trucks ran a full page ad in this
morning's USA TODAY congratulating GRANT HILL for winning Co-
Rookie of the Year and leading the All-Star voting. The tagline:
"And at the same time, won everyone's respect.  Which may be
better sthill" (USA TODAY, 5/19)
