SPALDING CATHCES THE NEW WAVE IN GOLF: THE WOMEN'S MARKET

Noting that women now account for 40% of all new golfers and
that they bought $168M in golfing equipment in '93, FORTUNE
reports that Spalding has "launched a line of golf gear designed
specifically for women." The Top Flight Women line features club
shafts that are lighter and club heads angled differently to
yield maximum distance. Spalding is also introducing a larger
regulation golf ball that is easier to hit, and a shorter golf
bag. The cost: $1,000 buys a new set of woods and irons, $99 for
a shorter bag, and a dozen golf balls for $36 (FORTUNE, 11/14
issue).
