DAZN Secures Champions League Rights In Germany

Comcast's Sky Deutschland "lost the rights to broadcast" the Champions League in Germany for the "first time in 20 years" after being outbid by streaming service DAZN. Sky "will no longer show matches once its current deal with UEFA expires" in '21. DAZN has "scooped up" the rights alongside Amazon. Sky Deutschland still has the German rights to the Bundesliga, EPL, F1 and tennis, including Wimbledon (DEADLINE, 12/12). Sky Deutschland CEO Carsten Schmidt said his company had "fought hard for the rights but had not been prepared to pay the high price to win them." German publication Bild said that German public broadcaster ZDF would broadcast the Champions League final along with DAZN (REUTERS, 12/12).
