Italian Federation Hits Agent Mino Raiola With Three-Month Ban

Soccer agent Mino Raiola denied any "wrongdoing" and will appeal against a three-month ban issued by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). Raiola, who represents Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Matthijs de Ligt, among others, is suspended until Aug. 9 -- "banning him for the majority of the summer transfer window in Italy," which closes on Aug. 18. Raiola's cousin Vincenzo Raiola was also suspended for two months, although it is "unclear why the two men have been banned" (SKY SPORTS, 5/9).

Raiola said of his three-month ban, "This suspension in Italy is not a surprise, unfortunately. I suppose the Italian Football Federation has not yet forgiven the criticisms I had made of the FIGC for the their role in the disastrous state of Italian football and also for their role around the latest episodes of racism" (ANSA, 5/9). Raiola added, "I have not yet received any explanation. Perhaps this is a result of a story from some frustrated weirdo. I honestly don’t know what is going on" (BLEACHER REPORT, 5/9).
