Liverpool's Growth Continues

Liverpool’s comeback win Tuesday against Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal came as a shock to most who were watching, but not former Reds keeper Bruce Grobbelaar, who was in N.Y. promoting the team’s U.S. tour this summer. He watched the match with the Liverpool FC New York Supporters Group at 11th Street Bar in the East Village.

"People were biting their nails before the game," he said. "I said, 'Don’t worry, if we get a goal by halftime, we could actually do this.' And we went on and we did it. It was absolutely brilliant."

Grobbelaar is now a team ambassador who works in Anfield’s corporate lounges during home games. He has high hopes for the team’s future, both on the pitch and as a global brand, under the leadership of Manager Jürgen Klopp.

"The momentum under Klopp is like a train slowly going down the line and picking up so many fans on the way," Grobbelaar said. "I was mistaken yesterday when I said there are 24 official supporters’ clubs here in the United States. It’s 49. Every place you go to, it’s gathering momentum."

The EPL club will play Borussia Dortmund on July 19 at Notre Dame Stadium before meeting LaLiga side Sevilla at Fenway Park on July 21 and taking on Portuguese club Sporting at Yankee Stadium on July 24 during the Int’l Champions Cup.
