Sources: Ganassi, Jimmie Johnson Find Sponsor For IndyCar

Chip Ganassi Racing and Jimmie Johnson have found a new primary sponsor for their IndyCar venture next year, sources say, completing the final step they needed to seal his move. Johnson announced in early September that he was planning to compete for Ganassi next season to race in the NTT IndyCar Series after completing his full-time NASCAR career for Hendrick Motorsports this year. However, at the time, Ganassi said that sponsorship still needed to be sorted to make the move official for the seven-time Cup Series champion.

Now, sources say that a company has stepped up to become a primary sponsor of the effort and that a deal is being finalized. The brand's identity is unknown, but sources expected an announcement soon. Top teams like Ganassi typically need $8-10M for a full IndyCar season, but Johnson is only set to run 13 of the 17 races, so his deal likely commanded slightly less. CGR did not respond to requests for comment.
