Analytics Leaders Look To What's Next In Sports Industry

Kraft Analytics Group CEO Jessica Gelman said one of the biggest challenges of the pandemic is that increasingly, information is being delivered "in real time," so being able to adjust on the fly has been “critical” over the last six months. Gelman, speaking on the first day of the AXS Sports Facilities & Franchises and Ticketing Symposium, said one of the big questions for KAGR will be how different the consumer will look after the pandemic. Also, another area KAGR is focused on is that the "product and experience that the customers are going to be expecting is changing too, and that is across the board."

NFL Giants VP/Strategy & Business Intelligence Russell Scibetti noted with a lack of fans at events, traditional tactics and past behaviors "may not be as predictive as they were before because of the blind spots that we now have that you can't get from some of the traditional transactional data or demographic data." Scibetti noted the Giants had roughly 50% of their season-ticket holders opt out, and that means the team may be able to put "some additional emphasis on how we evolve our modeling." AXS Senior VP/Global Data Strategy & Analytics Sezin Aksoy noted fans will probably buy tickets "closer to the game." Aksoy: “They probably will not want to make plans months advance, because they may not know exactly what's going to be happening with the current situation."
