NASCAR Game Licensee 704Games Shifting Operations To Miami

NASCAR video game licensee 704Games is closing down its Charlotte office and moving operations to Miami, where owner Motorsport Network is based, sources said. The move includes the dismissal of 704Games’ Charlotte-based staff, but the company is not shutting down and rather will continue operations both in Miami as well as Orlando, where the company has a development group that helps make the game. Staff was informed in an email yesterday. The company is still planning to release the next iteration of its video game franchise, NASCAR Heat 5, next year.

704Games President Colin Smith, who formerly ran NASCAR Digital Media, will step down after '19 to pursue new opportunities but remain as an advisor for the NASCAR Heat Pro League esports series, which just finished its first season and is in title sponsor talks. Motorsport Network amassed more than a dozen acquisitions in recent years but is now shifting strategies. It has made other major changes in recent weeks, including ending the print edition of European publication Autosport.
