Phoenix To Hold Series Of Public Meetings On Suns Arena Deal

The city of Phoenix will hold five public meetings between Jan. 5-10 on its proposed deal with the Suns to renovate Talking Stick Resort Arena. A Phoenix City Council vote on the $230M renovation deal was delayed until Jan. 23 after it lacked enough support to pass earlier this month. The city also has posted more details of the deal and the arena’s impact on downtown Phoenix. The renovations, which would take place during the NBA offseason, would start next year and run to '21. The Suns would continue to play at the arena, but the WNBA Mercury and AFL Rattlers would have to find temporary new homes.

Phoenix officials countered calls for a renovated arena to be outfitted for the Coyotes, who want to move out of Glendale’s Gila River Arena. They said a hockey inclusive renovation would be significantly more expensive. The Suns also have not shown interest in sharing a building with the Coyotes.
