Sources: Rams, Chiefs Ready For "MNF" Game To Move To L.A.

The Rams and Chiefs reportedly have "begun making travel preparations for the 'likelihood'" Monday's game will be played in L.A. rather than Mexico City due to Estadio Azteca field conditions. Both teams have "significant concerns over the quality of the playing surface," after a Shakira concert "left the field in tatters" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 11/13). The NFL "has contingency plans in the event games need to be moved." One of those contingencies is that the "home team of an international series game also has to have its home stadium available in the event a game has to be relocated" (LATIMES.com, 11/13).

Sources said that if the "MNF" game is played in Mexico City, a "number of Rams and Chiefs players are now strongly considering not playing in that game on that messy surface" (TWITTER.com, 11/13). Workers are “busy installing new sod" at Estadio Azteca. The NFL is “expected to make a final decision today, but the fact that they’re working on the field now suggests they’re going to try to play there” (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com 11/13).

ESPN's Tim Hasselbeck: "This is an absolute joke. ... High school games around the country are played on a better surface" (“NFL Live,” ESPN, 11/13). CBS Sports' Amy Trask earlier today tweeted, "If there is any question about field safety at Estadio Azteca the game should not be played on it - instead, move it to LA, donate proceeds to support those impacted by and those fighting the fires, ask attendees to bring clothes and other donations" (TWITTER.com, 11/13).
