ESPN Ramping Up Use Of Player Audio During "MNF"

Bears LB Khalil Mack "will be mic'd up tonight" against the Seahawks for ESPN's coverage, and the net is "aggressively amplifying player audio above the crowd" for "MNF" broadcasts this season. For the "first time" since ESPN owned the Sunday night package, it has "purchased access to a player mic after the league cut the price by 2/3 following the summer meeting." Any player mic audio "MNF" wants to use "first has to be approved by an NFL Films employee, and no foul language or strategy talk is allowed on-air." Also, the on-air commentators "could 'lay out' a little more often if they wanted to give fans the full post-play effect" (SI.com, 9/17).

Meanwhile, Cheat Codes featuring CVBZ will be the musical act tonight during the "Genesis Halftime Show," hosted by Suzy Kolber, Steve Young and Louis Riddick. Other artists that will appear on “MNF” this season include Zac Brown Band, Ciara and Daughtry (John Ourand, Staff Writer).

Also, Bears TE Trey Burton starting with tonight's game "will donate $1,000 per catch he makes and $2,500 per touchdown he scores" to the Int'l Justice Mission, an organization "trying to put an end to slavery and human trafficking." The Bears "expect to announce the effort on the video board" before tonight's game. Burton said that he "expects to add up his tab for catches and touchdowns for all home and away games this season" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 9/17).
