Citi Field Operator Awarded Safety Act Designation By DHS

Queens Ballpark Co., a subsidiary created by the Mets to operate Citi Field, has been awarded a Safety Act designation and certification from the Department of Homeland Security, the highest level of protection granted by the program. The recognition gives the entity protection through August '23 from paying claims that might be filed by victims of an incident at the ballpark that is deemed by DHS to be an “act of terrorism.” Citi Field originally received the distinction in '13.

There are 18 other major-league venues covered under some level of Safety Act protection, although Busch Stadium, Comerica Park and Yankee Stadium are the only other ballparks on the list. N.Y.-based Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman helped the Mets navigate the application process and secure federal protection.
