Sources: Gruden's 10-Year Deal Worth More Than $100M From Raiders
The Raiders “seek a long-term commitment from ESPN analyst and expected new coach Jon Gruden and they are preparing a 10-year contract” for him that “eclipses $100M,” according to sources. The Raiders will conduct Gruden’s formal interview on Monday and are “planning for a Tuesday press conference.” Gruden’s coaching staff “will be the most expensive” in NFL history. Sources said that the coordinators are getting four-year deals -- “2 years in Oakland, 2 in Las Vegas” (TWITTER.com, 1/5).
ESPN's Jim Trotter: "My understanding is that GM Reggie McKenzie’s role won’t be diminished with the arrival of Gruden. Proof: McKenzie declined a Green Bay request to interview for Packers GM job." Bleacher Report's Mike Freeman: "If Gruden is worth $100 million then Aaron Rodgers is worth the planet Earth." SI’s Richard Deitsch: “Gruden leaving saves ESPN millions of dollars (a reported $6 million-plus annually). Why not take a drop of that and rehire some of the talented people they let go?”
