SMI Removing Some Seats, Suites From Charlotte Motor Speedway
SMI is "removing some lower-demand seating areas and suites" at Charlotte Motor Speedway, according to a securities filing. The company also said it will start offering "premium hospitality and entertainment activities" at the track. It is also "considering installing solar panels" as "part of its 'green initiatives,' after the seat 're-purposing' project." CMS VP/Communications Scott Cooper said that the track "would contact any fans who hold tickets for events that might be impacted if their seats are removed" (CHARLOTTEOBSERVER.com, 3/20).
SMI-owned Las Vegas Motor Speedway will undergo a similar seat reduction as part of its renovation.
