European Olympic Committees Want IOC To Reform Bidding Process
The Olympic committees for Austria, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland today in a joint paper called on the IOC for a "thorough revision of the Olympic bidding process." The committees asked the IOC for "more support in bidding, more certainty in process, more partnership in risk, more flexibility in scale." All four nations "backtracked recently from bidding plans to host" the '22 Winter Games or the '28 Summer Games "because of a lack of national or, at least, regional public or political support." The NOCs "hope their findings will become part of the Olympic Agenda 2020" (AP, 7/15).
