Brazil's Legacy As World Cup Host Examined Ahead Of Sunday's Final

As Sunday's Germany-Argentina World Cup final nears, media outlets are assessing the event's legacy and Brazil's performance as host. The AP's Stephen Wade writes, "Once the World Cup and its traveling circus leaves town, four gleaming stadiums that cost $1.6 billion and hosted massive crowds will echo noisily as their owners struggle to find a use for them or even partially fill them" (AP). USA TODAY's Taylor Barnes writes the "concerns were numerous" about Brazil hosting the World Cup, but the "scene here belies those fears" (USA TODAY).

The GLOBE & MAIL's Cathal Kelly goes with the header, "What This World Cup Got Right – And What Went Wrong" (GLOBE & MAIL). The WASHINGTON POST's Catherine Rampell asks, "Has the world finally realized what a superbly dumb idea it is to host a major sporting event?" (WASHINGTON POST).
