Mark Emmert Stays On Message In Second Day Of O'Bannon Testimony
NCAA President Mark Emmert concluded his testimony in the Ed O’Bannon trial Friday after nearly six total hours on the stand over two days. Emmert stayed on message during Friday’s session saying, “I think direct product endorsement by a student-athlete is inappropriate.” A good portion of Emmert’s second-day testimony “centered around” former NCAA exec Wally Renfro. Emmert was also cross-examined on “the basis of natural competitive imbalance in the NCAA.”
The impact of Emmert’s testimony on the trial “remains unknown.” While he was a distinct witness in the case, “his sworn statements haven’t shown to be unexpected or different to what he’s said in the past.” Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany was the next witness called to the stand (CBSSPORTS.com, 6/20).
