Ticket Sales Strong For Saturday Soccer Events In DC, Jacksonville
Organizers are expecting at least 55,000 spectators for the first match of Saturday's soccer doubleheader at 79,000-seat FedEx Field, featuring a Spain-El Salvador int'l friendly followed by a Crew-DC United regular-season match. How many seats "remain for the second game is unclear" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 6/6). Organizers are "hoping for a late uptick in advance sales and a decent walk-up by the Salvadoran community" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 6/3). The Redskins "worked with MLS's marketing arm (SUM) and United to stage" the event (WASHINGTON POST, 6/3).
Meanwhile, as of Thursday, "well over 44,000 tickets had been sold" for Saturday's Nigeria-U.S. friendly at EverBank Field. When Jacksonville "last hosted the Men’s team in 2012, the 44,000+ attendance was considered a Southeastern record for a friendly match" (WOKV.com, 6/5). It will be the "final tune-up game" for both teams prior to the FIFA World Cup in Brazil (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 6/4).
