U.S. Soccer, Nike Formally Unveil Away Uniform For National Teams

U.S. Soccer and Nike today unveiled the away kit for the men's and women's national teams, which will be worn first by the men during tomorrow's friendly against Mexico. Features of the jersey include a crew neck collar and three bands representing the colors of the American flag, with red featured prominently. There is a pennant tab inside the back of the neck featuring 13 red and white stripes. The kits are available for purchase at ussoccerstore.com. Press images for the release included Colts QB Andrew Luck and Lions DT Ndamukong Suh modeling the uniforms (U.S. Soccer).

NPR's Bill Chappell writes the kits are "attracting attention with their striking departure from previous designs." USATODAY.com's Mike Foss: "Daring, colorful – basically, the uniform is a handful of shiny stars away from being a Katy Perry outfit." SOCCERBYIVES.net's Dan Karell: "The kit bears a striking resemblance to the Bomb Pop popsicle sticks found in many ice cream trucks."
