Ryan Braun Gets Standing Ovation In Return From Suspension
Brewers LF Ryan Braun “got a huge standing ovation” from a sellout crowd at Miller Park during his first at-bat in today’s game against the Braves. The game is the first Braun has played since being suspended for the final 65 games in '13 for his role in the Biogenesis scandal (JSONLINE.com, 3/31). The Brewers during the offseason conducted a survey of season-ticket holders to gauge how fans would react to Braun's return. A team exec said that "there's a Midwestern sensibility here." Marketing officials said that Braun's "T-shirts and jerseys are selling at about the same level they did before the suspension" ("Baseball Tonight," ESPN, 3/31).
Meanwhile, former MLBer Barry Bonds, who played for the Pirates from '86-92, "drew a mixture of boos and cheers during his return to Pittsburgh" today. Bonds was on hand at PNC Park to present CF Andrew McCutchen with the '13 NL MVP award (AP, 3/31).
