Ezra Edelman Chronicles Rise And Fall Of Big East In "30 For 30" Film

ESPN on Sunday will air “Requiem for the Big East” at 9:00pm ET, a “30 for 30” film from director and Georgetown fan Ezra Edelman. The documentary focuses on the “financial and television realities” of the conference, including “groundbreaking deals with CBS and ESPN” and “ultimately the monetary forces that ripped the league apart.” Edelman begins and ends the film with last season’s Big East tournament Georgetown-Syracuse meeting, merging “last season’s loving eulogies with a harsher look at why his favorite rivalry and favorite league was going away” (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 3/12).

The PROVIDENCE JOURNAL’s Jim Donaldson writes of the film, “It is as much ‘must-see TV’ as the finals of the Big East tournament.” NEWSDAY’s Neil Best writes, “Most of the tale focuses on the early years, nostalgia catnip for those of us over 40. Those younger than that might learn a thing or two, and find the entire thing difficult to believe.”

ESPN Films Exec Producer John Dahl gives more insight into the “30 for 30” process.
