Golf Channel Rolls Out Increased Coverage Of Golf's Olympic Return

Golf Channel today launched a cross-platform effort highlighting golf's upcoming Olympic return at the '16 Rio Games. The push includes increased coverage on the air as well as on the channel's official website and social media feeds. Today's rollout will culminate with an Olympic-focused episode of "In Play with Jimmy Roberts" at 10:00pm ET, which will include interviews with course designer Gil Hanse (Golf Channel).

Roberts appeared on today's episode of "Morning Drive" to discuss Olympic golf and his experience in Sochi. Roberts: "The jury's still out. I think people are still divided as to whether or not they think it's a good idea. ... People keep on asking me, do I think Tiger is going to want to go? Well yeah, I do think he is going to want to go, and I think everybody is going to want to go, because they're going to be curious and they're going to want to be a part of it. And they're not going to be mailing it in." Roberts said of the pressure on Hanse to create a quality course: "There are all these competing forces that aren't necessarily aligned all the time that have had some involvement in this. That's made it a very complicated issue. ... Bottom line is, it's going to get done, but it hasn't been easy" (Golf Channel, 2/24).
