Kerrigan's Cooperation Sets NBC's Film "Nancy & Tonya" Apart
NBC on Sunday will air "Nancy & Tonya," Mary Carillo's in-depth look at the '94 controversy around U.S. figure skaters Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding. Unlike ESPN's film "The Price Of Gold," Kerrigan agreed to be interviewed for this documentary, marking "one of the rare times Kerrigan has addressed the events of 20 years ago." Harding was interviewed as well (OREGONLIVE.com, 2/19). Kerrigan's cooperation was "part of her deal with NBC to work these Games as a paid 'correspondent'" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 2/21).
Carillo said that the "goal of the documentary was to do a character study" (TVGUIDE.com, 2/21). USA TODAY's Robert Bianco writes the film paints a "far more complete picture of the two women than we've seen before." It is a "remarkably sane film about a monumentally crazy event, and it does Carillo and NBC proud" (USA TODAY, 2/21)
