NFL Names Extreme Networks League's WiFi Analytics Partner

Network solutions provider Extreme Networks today announced a deal with the NFL to become the official WiFi analytics partner for the league and Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium. Extreme COO Chris Crowell said the deal is “about the fans and improving the digital experience the fans have” at NFL games. Current NFL venues using the system include Ford Field, Lincoln Financial Field, Gillette Stadium and MetLife Stadium.

NFL Senior VP & CIO Michelle McKenna-Doyle, speaking before a fan experience panel at league HQs in N.Y., said the system should “help the NFL find out what fans are trying to do that they can’t. We have to make sure that the fan experience is delivered uniquely.” Having the system in place will “help us adjust on the fly.” McKenna-Doyle: “We find our challenge is not any lack of mobile apps. Our challenge is having a network that all of that can be consumed on while you’re in the stadium.”

“There is no better place to watch a game than in an NFL stadium,” McKenna-Doyle said. “There’s nothing that can quite replace that immersive experience. … We recognize that we have some challenges in our stadiums to provide fans with the connectivity they expect. Some stadiums have been on the forefront and some are working on it.”
