FIFA Announces 37% Increase In World Cup Prize Money To $576M
FIFA today formally announced a 37% increase in prize money for the '14 World Cup, from $420M (all figures U.S.) in '10 to $576M "at next year's tournament in Brazil." The winners will pocket $35M compared to $30M in South Africa, with the runners-up to earn $25M. The increase was announced following a FIFA Exec Committee meeting. In addition, each of the 32 finalists will receive $1.5M for their "preparation costs," up $500,000 from '10 (REUTERS, 12/5).
