ESPN To Debut "30 For 30" Film About Leonard-Duran Fight
ESPN tonight at 8:00pm ET will debut "No Mas," the latest documentary in its "30 for 30" series, which focuses on Roberto Duran's quitting in a fight with Sugar Ray Leonard in '80. NEWSDAY's Greg Logan notes viewers "seeking a definitive answer as to why Duran quit won't hear it, but as Leonard concluded, the journey to revisit the first two Leonard-Duran fights is a rich tapestry that examines every angle sufficiently to satisfy any lingering doubts" (NEWSDAY.com, 10/13).
VARIETY's Brian Lowry writes the film does a "bang-up job of revisiting those events, before committing a serious misstep by reuniting the two fighters, in what feels like a reality-TV stunt." AWFUL ANNOUNCING's Ben Koo writes the documentary "gets a little lost in the third act as director, Eric Drath, goes in search for closure and comes home empty handed."
