Belichick "Genuinely Contrite" While Discussing Hernandez Situation
Patriots coach Bill Belichick today in his first public comments on the Aaron Hernandez arrest said that he was "shocked and disappointed" that a Patriots player was involved in such an investigation. Belichick after introducing the topic said that he "would not say Hernandez's name again in a 22-minute press conference." He "appeared genuinely contrite," in a "stark contrast from past press conferences surrounding controversy" (BOSTON.com, 7/24).
Belichick said that the team "would examine the way it evaluates players," echoing Patriots Owner Robert Kraft's "first comments on Hernandez earlier this month" (ESPNBOSTON.com, 7/24).
