NFL Will Likely Have To Change Dates For Next Year's Draft

The NFL will likely have to change the dates of the Draft in '14 because Radio City Music Hall is bringing back a spring and Easter show around that time, said NFL Senior VP/PR Greg Aiello. The Draft has been held at Radio City since '06. The change in dates is not connected to discussions over changes to the league year, he said. While the league would like to move the combine to April, it is set for February next year, Aiello said. It is unclear now whether the Draft will move into May or change venues. The Draft would have been scheduled for April 24-26, 2014 (Daniel Kaplan, Staff Writer).

ESPN’s Adam Schefter this afternoon cited sources as saying that the NFL and NFLPA are "on the verge of pushing back the draft to May and moving up the start of the league year to before" the scouting combine. Sources added that the union is "close to signing off on allowing the NFL to move the draft to May from April for at least the next three years." The league "originally proposed a league year that would have started later in the calendar year and the NFLPA rejected that idea" (ESPN.com, 5/20).
